Circulating Tumor Cells in Breast Cancer
Kim Seung-Il

Abstract
Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) is tumor cells that circulate in the bloodstream in patients with malignant tumors. Detecting CTCs is considered as a valuable modality as prognostic and predictive markers in patients with breast cancer. There are potential roles of CTCs for prediction of responsiveness of systemic chemotherapy by serial assay of changing patterns of CTCs number. Analysis of CTCs may provide crucial biological information for selection of optimal targeted agents. In this article, we will review and discuss potential roles and clinical applications of CTCs in patients with breast cancer.
